Why cyber security matters to us
As accountants, we are trusted with confidential financial, personal and commercial information. From accounting records and tax information to payroll data and company financials, keeping information secure is an important part of the service we provide to our clients.
Technology plays an increasingly important role in modern accountancy, allowing us to work more efficiently, collaborate with clients digitally and use cloud-based systems to provide a better service. However, increased use of technology also makes strong cyber-security controls increasingly important. That is why we have taken the additional step of obtaining Cyber Essentials certification.
What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a Government-backed cyber-security certification scheme designed to help organisations protect themselves against the most common internet-based cyber threats.
The certification focuses on five key technical areas: firewalls, secure configuration, security update management, user access control and malware protection.
These controls help organisations reduce common vulnerabilities that cyber criminals can attempt to exploit.
What does this mean for our clients?
Achieving Cyber Essentials certification provides further assurance that we take the security of our systems and the information entrusted to us seriously. It demonstrates that we have reviewed our IT environment against an established cyber-security standard and have appropriate fundamental protections in place. No organisation can completely eliminate cyber risk, and certification is not something we see as the end of the process.
