Self-Employment Income Support Scheme

In readiness for making claims for your self employed income support which the chancellor released a number of weeks ago it will predominantly be down to you to make your own claims. Over the last couple of days there has been emails and text messages in relation to HMRC posting out letters in relation to this claim, it is paramount all self employed people have their own government gateway accounts set up in order to make these claims, we will NOT be able to make these claims for you I am afraid.

Below is a step by step guide on how to set up your own personal tax gateway account and most importantly the activation of this account takes up to 10 days so YOU need to act now in order not to delay your claim.

You can also check if you are eligible for a claim by following the below link, you will need your personal tax UTR and also national insurance number to fulfil the check. It will be worthwhile doing this before you follow the below:

https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/self-employment-support/enter-unique-taxpayer-reference

If you already have a Gateway for self assessment set up you will NOT need to do the below, just make sure the account is authorised in readiness for the claim.

Initially follow the below link:

https://www.gov.uk/log-in-register-hmrc-online-services

Click the green ‘sign in’ box when you use the link above.

Go To ‘Continue to your account’ at the bottom of the page.

Go to ‘Create sign in details’ at the bottom of that page.

Enter your email address and a code will be sent to your email address to enter on screen.

Enter name and create a password and  set a recovery password that you will remember.

Enter a phone number and an access code will be sent to that number to enter on the screen.

You will then be given a government gateway id – this will be sent to you via email but I would advise you to print it and keep it safe.

Continue and choose ’Individual account’ on the next page

Enter the details on the next few pages

Confirm who you are – name , ni number and DOB

Choose a way for us to identify you – either choose multiple choice security question or passport and enter the details from there.

Choose how to get tax code notices – either post or through account,

This will then take you to your Personal Tax Account page

In the Self-Assessment box click ‘find out how to access self-assessment’

On the next page click the green box that says ‘Request access to self-assessment’ you will need your UTR and NI or postcode to enter.

Click green box ‘request access’

Next page should say…

You’ve requested access to self-assessment.

A code should then arrive in the next 7 days from HMRC.

You will need to sign back into your Gateway account and activate it with the code above.

As I am unaware the process from here if you need any further information once the account is live, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Lee
